About the LubeAlert® Confidence Program

The LubeAlert Confidence Program was designed to allow fleets to test and prove the benefits of using qualifying CITGO/Mystik heavy-duty synthetic products at no risk. It offers two types of tests depending on product selection:

  • Fuel Economy Optimization – demonstrates up to 4 to 5 percent fuel economy savings
  • Drain Interval Optimization – up to triple the time between drain intervals

The program gives consideration to the overall time, investment and commitment needed to properly execute a field test. What it all boils down to is this––product performance is guaranteed or the price of the lubricants is on us.

How it Works

  1. CITGO/Mystik products are purchased for the test fleet from a CITGO/Mystik Marketer. The quantity purchased should generate sufficient oil analysis data to determine a safe engine oil drain interval goal. This usually requires three to four oil changes.
  2. Fleet maintenance goals and operational requirements are accessed by a CITGO/Mystik representative and recommendations are made on qualifying test product options, which may include additional support products.
  3. Fleet test capability is verified to ensure successful test results.
  4. During the test period, engine oil samples are tested and data reported by the LubeAlert Oil Analysis Lab. Fuel consumption data is supplied by the test fleet and regularly reviewed by the CITGO/Mystik Marketer and CITGO/Mystik.
  5. At the end of the successful test period, a product performance summary and customized cost-savings analysis are prepared using test fleet data. Additionally, a potential annual cost-savings report is generated.

Qualifying Products:

  • CITGARD 700 Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Engine Oil
  • Mystik JT-8® SHD 15W-40 Engine Oil
  • Mystik JT-8 Full Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil

Fuel Economy Optimization

The length of the fuel economy test may vary depending on time needed to establish reliable and representative fleet data. An initial oil sample is required to detect any problems that could impact fuel economy results.

Fuel consumption data is typically generated and reported from vehicle electronic control module systems (ECM) that provide print outs on engine operational variables, including fuel consumption, engine idle time and RPM ranges. Comparisons are made based on fuel economy data generated during the time the test units were operated using previous 15W-40 engine oils versus the data generated once they switched to qualifying CITGO/Mystik® heavy duty synthetic products.

Below you will find guidelines and goals for Fuel Economy Optimization testing.

Guidelines

  1. The LubeAlert Oil Analysis Lab is required to receive all test samples to evaluate the impact of oil condition on fuel economy. A fleet may choose to send samples to another lab as well.
  2. Testing requires three or four test units.
    • Base line oil samples of all test units’ existing fuel consumption and maintenance history must be provided to the LubeAlert Oil Analysis Lab for approval.
    • Test units must have consistent operating conditions, with the same make, model, operator, year, loads, logistics and drivers.
    • Maintaining the same driver and recognition of consistent speed control evaluated from the test units’ electronic data systems is vital.
  3. Samples must be labeled properly and taken on the recommended schedule. If not, this may result in cancellation of the program, without test product reimbursement.
  4. types, trailer types and oil contamination levels must be consistent and without change during the testing period. Variables such as engine idle time or PTO time are factored into the fuel economy analysis.
  5. In the event a fleet has properly monitored the test process, but the test does not meet goals, a request for reimbursement must be submitted to the CITGO/Mystik professional representative.

Goals

A minimum of 3 percent fuel economy is guaranteed* when using either:

  • CITGARD® SynDurance® Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil, or
  • Mystik JT-8 Full Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil.

Up to 4 to 5 percent fuel economy** is attainable when using CITGARD SynDurance Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil or Mystik JT-8 Full Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil combined with one of the following:

  • CITGO CITGEAR® HD Full Synthetic 75W-90 Automotive Lubricant
  • CITGO CITGEAR HD Full Synthetic SAE 50 Automotive Lubricant
  • Mystik SX-7000® Synthetic Gear Oil

*When tested in comparison to conventional, synthetic blend or full synthetic 10W-40 or 15W-40 engine oils.
**When tested in comparison to conventional SAE 50, 80W-90, 85W-140 or 15W-40 Gear Oils.

Drain Interval Optimization Test

Drain Interval Optimization testing comprises three engine oil change intervals plus a mid-drain oil change interval for all test units. Oil sample frequency is based on individual test unit requirements, schedules and conditions. Oil extension is based on the oil condition at the most recent oil sample. Most tests conclude in less than six months. A Drain Interval Optimization Goal will be set once the evaluation concludes.

Drain interval data is typically generated and reported from vehicle electronic control module systems (ECM) that provide print outs on engine operational variables, including fuel consumption, engine idle time and RPM ranges. Optimization is based on the oil condition of the most recent engine oil sample. The final engine oil change interval is established after reviewing the complete oil condition trends of samples taken from each unit during the testing period.

When testing, the oil filter manufacturer should be consulted as capability of product is matched to engine oil drain interval goal. Additionally, the engine manufacturer of the test units should be contacted to explain process goals and how drain intervals should be managed.

Below you will find guidelines and goals for Drain Interval Optimization testing.

Guidelines

  1. The LubeAlert Oil Analysis Lab is required to receive all test samples to evaluate the impact of oil condition on fuel economy. A fleet may choose to send samples to another lab as well.
  2. Testing requires four test units.
    • Base line oil samples of all test units’ existing fuel consumption and maintenance history must be provided to the LubeAlert Oil Analysis Lab for approval.
    • Test units must have consistent operating conditions, with the same make, model, operator, year, loads, logistics and drivers.
  3. Samples must be labeled properly and taken on the recommended schedule. If not, this may result in cancellation of the program, without test product reimbursement. The miles of the mid-drain oil sample must be no greater than the present oil drain interval (ODI).
  4. Loads, drivers, routes, seasonal fuel changes, tire types, trailer types and oil contamination levels must be consistent and without change during the test evaluation period. Variables such as engine idle time or PTO time are factored into the drain interval optimization analysis.
  5. In the event a fleet has properly monitored the test process, but the test does not meet goals, a request for reimbursement must be submitted to the CITGO/Mystik professional representative.

Goals

Triple the time between ODIs is guaranteed when using either:

  • CITGARD® SynDurance® Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil
  • CITGARD 700 Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Engine Oil
  • Mystik JT-8® SHD 15W-40 Engine Oil, or
  • Mystik JT-8 Full Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil.

ODI is further enhanced* when any product listed above is combined with one of the following:

  • SynDurance Premium Synthetic 460® Grease
  • CITGO OverDrive HD® Grease.

*Monitoring grease life along with engine oil is highly recommended to achieve maximum results.
